She is the vital link in connecting the past and the present and maintaining tradition while adding a dose of modern innovation. While all the other grandmothers were making cherry juice, she made lemonade! Grandma Marika, born in 1927 in Samos, always followed and maintained tradition but always added her own special ingredient, her secret... Grandma Marika wasn't just any other grandmother. She picked fresh lemons from the trees in her garden, always ripe and just the right time of year, and spent endless hours storing and stacking them. Her lovable and devoted admirers were the neighborhood children, who filled and warmed her yard like a tender hug, and shouted "Grandma, will you please give me a sip of your tasty lemonade?" She always welcomed everyone, saying "There they are! Welcome!!!..." Beautiful and innocent years... Experiencing a time of poverty but of purity and value, she knew how to enrich moments with the little pleasures in life that she offered to her neighborhood with her homemade fresh juices made from fruits of the season. All of the above reasons were the inspiration for her grandchildren Konstantinos, Zafiris and, Giorgos, to maintain her secret recipe like the apple of their eye, but they also decided to share it with the whole world so that everyone can enjoy their grandmothers homemade recipe just like it was in the past, bringing back memories in older generations, and creating new ones in the next. Our Gia..Giamas is now 98 years old and lives in Karlovasi Samos enjoying beautiful and happy moments with her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
